2004-10-16, WORLDWIT - World’s largest online discussion group for women is granting five non-profits moderated discussion communitiesBoulder, CO (PRWEB) October 17, 2004 -- WorldWIT, the world’s largest online networking community for professional women, announced today that it will honor National Business Women’s Week 2004 (NBWW) by granting select organizations with the ability to connect online. WorldWIT`s Online Community Grant will provide free, online communities for five not-for-profit organizations devoted to the professional development and advancement of women. As the largest online community for professional women worldwide, WorldWIT is extending its online community services to the not-for-profit realm by donating the five grant communities to organizations whose programs and efforts could be advanced through online collaboration among their members. The five grantee organizations will be selected based on their mission, their previous accomplishments in promoting and advancing women in business, and their need for an online community for members. The five communities will be developed, built, installed and maintained at no charge by WorldWIT in order to facilitate information exchange, networking, mentoring and advice-sharing among members of the five selected grant recipient organizations. "Our 35,000 members around the world represent a large number of associations and professional societies whose work could be accelerated via stronger communication and collaboration capabilities among their members," said Liz Ryan, WorldWIT founder and CEO. "We are pleased to celebrate National Business Women`s Week by offering five terrific organizations the ability to brainstorm as a group and create stronger connections among professional women," she continued. The first annual observation of NBWW was held April 15-22, 1928, when Business and Professional Women/USA President, Lena Madesin Phillips, honored the occasion during a nationally broadcast speech. Her remarks included that the purpose of the week was "to focus public attention upon a better business woman for a better business world". Organizations for women in business, including function, and industry-specific groups, as well as organizations for women of color, for working mothers, entrepreneurs and work-at-home women, are encouraged to apply to be included in the WorldWIT Online Community Grant at http://www.worldwit.org/nbwwaction/form.html, or can write to WorldWIT Communications Director Kristi Hughes at for more information.
